The brows and forehead contribute significantly to a person’s expression and consequently are one of the first areas to show signs of aging especially in very expressive individuals. The common signs noted in a aging forehead are vertical lines between the eyebrows (frown lines) due to frequent frowning, horizontal lines across the forehead due to frequent lifting of eyebrows and general brow droopiness which gives a heavy browed look. To achieve a natural result with facial rejuvenation attention must be given to the upper one-third of the face. Lifting procedures to the lower face gives a youthful neckline but it might not be in balance with a heavy brow. Especially prior to undergoing Upper Blepharoplasty, it is essential your surgeon takes the time to identify, if the hooded appearance is due to excess skin on the upper eyelid or a droopy eyebrow that is crowding the eyelid. A brow lift, also called a forehead lift can dramatically affect the appearance of the entire face, providing a more relaxed, refreshed and youthful look. There are 2 methods of lifting the brow that are used usually, namely the traditional open brow lift and the Endoscopic brow lift.
A brow lift is a procedure to improve brow position by raising it to or above the bony rim of the eye socket, which is often considered the ideal position of the eye brows. A brow lift can also improve lateral hooding caused by excess skin near the outside corner of the eyes between the brow and the lid. An Endoscopic browlift uses an endoscope (slender fibre optic tube equipped with tiny vide camera and bright light no larger than a pencil eraser) which allows the surgeon to view the internal structure of the forehead without making a wide open cut incision. In most cases an endoscopic brow lift is combined with a mid facelift performed through the same incisions, thereby ensuring an overall improvement of the facial aesthetics as a unit.
